FAQ

Common questions

Is the source code really open?
Yes. CIAM Platform is open-source under the Apache 2.0 license. You can fork it, self-host it, and modify it without restriction. Paid plans add commercial support, higher limits, and advanced features.
Do you charge per Monthly Active User (MAU)?
No. We charge based on total registered users, not MAU. This keeps billing predictable and avoids penalizing you during high-traffic periods like product launches.
Can I self-host and not pay anything?
Yes. The Community tier is completely free to self-host with no time limit. You handle your own infrastructure and get community (GitHub) support.
What infrastructure do I need?
A single Docker Compose file starts everything: PostgreSQL, Redis/Valkey, Kafka, OpenSearch, and the auth server. For production, we recommend Kubernetes with separate managed instances for each data store.
What happens if I exceed my limit?
We notify you at 80% usage. Exceeding the limit doesn't hard-stop your service — you have a 7-day grace period to upgrade or add capacity. No surprise overage fees.
